Date/Time
Date(s) - 12/05/2023
1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Friday, May 12th 1pm-3pm
David Braley Health Sciences Centre, McMaster University 100 Main Street West Hamilton, ON L8P 1H6
Join researchers from McMaster University and community partners for an afternoon program that includes a talk by Dr. Jennifer Heisz on how physical activity can impact our physical and mental health, an “ask the experts” session where you can ask our researchers your big questions on aging research and an interactive research fair where you can to learn more about aging research at McMaster. You’ll also hear about Voice Canada, a new online platform that empowers community members to provide feedback early in the development of research projects.
The McMaster Institute for Research on Aging encourages researchers at McMaster to think about the people who will use their research while they are developing it, so that research findings can go on to support our communities to age well. To reach this goal, MIRA will be launching a community engagement platform, Voice Canada, that empowers community members to provide feedback early in the development of research projects. To celebrate the launch of this platform, we will be hosting a public talk and research fair that will be an exciting opportunity for you and our researchers to have important conversations about many of the hot topics in aging — from technology to physical activity to where you would like to live. Our staff will also be on-hand to get you signed up and show you how to use the platform.
Together we will build a better understanding of the challenges, opportunities and evidence around healthy, active aging; ensure our researchers are asking the right questions in their research; and ensure that study results reach our communities to support them in aging well.
Space is limited, advance tickets are recommended.
Population aging will have major impacts on our society, and poses big questions that we will need to answer together, such as:
- What challenges will people face as they “age in place”, especially outside of urban areas?
- What are the characteristics of age-friendly communities?
- How old can my generation expect to live – will humans keep living longer?
Join us May 12 to hear about the questions our researchers are working on and to learn about how you could help shape the future of aging research.
