The McMaster Digital Transformation Research Centre (MDTRC) is thrilled to announce its participation in the 23rd Pre-ICIS Human Computer Interaction (HCI) Research in Management Information Systems (MIS) Workshop, taking place this December in Bangkok as part of the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS). This globally recognized conference brings together leading experts to explore the intersection of technology, innovation, and human interaction.

Paper 1: Complementing Older Adult Digital Literacy Training Research with a Mobile User Experience Lab

This study introduces a unique approach to researching older adult digital literacy training by combining traditional data collection methods—such as observations, interviews, and Likert-scaled surveys—with the use of neurophysiological tools in our Mobile User Experience Lab (MUXL). The paper highlights the benefits and challenges of this interdisciplinary method, particularly with older adult populations.

The research assesses the impact of public library-led Android tablet training for marginalized older adults living in social housing. Guided by Social Cognitive Theory and a community-led digital literacy framework, the research aimed to dismantle barriers to digital literacy by offering free tablets, on-site training, and socialization components to improve psychological, behavioural, and skill-based outcomes.

Paper 2: Unlocking Consumer Persuasion: Harnessing Similarity Attraction in GenAI Design

This paper explores how generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) transforms consumer interactions on e-commerce platforms. By creating personalized, high-quality product images, GenAI reduces consumers’ search costs and cognitive burden, significantly enhancing the shopping experience.

The study delves into the psychology behind GenAI’s impact, highlighting how realistic and visually connected product imagery can influence purchasing decisions. Additionally, it provides insights into how marketers can strategically leverage GenAI to improve consumer engagement in diverse contexts. This research offers a forward-looking perspective on the integration of GenAI technology in digital marketing strategies.

The MDTRC is honoured to contribute to discussions at the forefront of digital transformation and human-computer interaction. We look forward to sharing insights, learning from global peers, and driving innovation that bridges technology and human connection.

Stay tuned for a post-conference recap, where we’ll share key takeaways from our presentations and insights from other leaders in this field. As we continue to push boundaries in digital research, the MDTRC remains committed to fostering innovation that bridges technology and human connection.
